Cardiff, Any
.Net Developer
NOTE: Whilst this position allows for remote working, you must be based in the UK for reasons of due diligence in order to apply for this job.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a C# Developer at Logically Secure. We’re a cyber security company that develops cyber security applications for lightning-quick responses to cyber security incidents and for assessing cyber risk. We work with all kinds of exciting organisations, such as Hollywood studios, football clubs, senior law enforcement bodies, and the military.
What you’ll work on
You’ll be working on a large range of areas within our tech stack.
We are currently in the process of launching a new .NET Core web application for use by major film studios in Hollywood. Our parent company is well established in Hollywood and this application will help film and movie studios to manage their cyber defenses. The backend is written in C# (.net core 3.x), with the frontend being VueJS speaking over an API to the backend.
We also develop a tool for Cyber Incident Response, known as CyberCPR, which has been deployed within major, well-known organisations across the world to allow them to quickly react to cyber incidents and breaches. Whilst it is envisaged that you will mostly work on C#, we may occasionally ask you to contribute to our other products, which may be written in different languages. We don’t expect you to know those languages, as you’ll be able to learn from those around you.
Along with the Lead Technical Architect and Lead Developer, you’ll be a central part of helping to drive a new product forward into exciting new categories. You’ll also be helping us plan and build out great new features.
What we can offer
Firstly, you’ll get the chance to genuinely shape development. We’ll rely on you feeding in your ideas and approaches and thoughts about what we can improve, where we can improve it and how to go about it.
We are a security company, so you’ll get the chance to work with renowned and recognized cyber security professionals and blue-chip companies. How often can you easily ask a professional to have a go at cracking your code? You can here!
We’ll also be looking for you to help in recruiting developers as we grow, and, given your experience, to provide tech help and mentoring as we recruit junior members into the team. We’ve got a product with free cashflow, we’re not reliant on investors and we’ve signed up some of the world’s largest blue-chip organisations as customers. You’d have the chance to come in early to a growing company with the potential to recruit new developers into a reporting line.
We know all places say they are nice to work at - but we really mean it! None of us are party animals (we mostly have families) but we do like to share a meal and pint and a talk about everything from history to philosophy to business to politics.
Location
Preferably Cardiff, but remote applications (based in UK) are accepted too.
Working times
Generally speaking, we're pretty laid back about working times. We have a daily stand up at 10am that all developers attend, but where people need to be flexible with times that's generally fine. We think clock watching is outdated; if the work is high quality, and delivered on time, and we help each other out when needed, that's all that matters.
Skills and qualities
Must have
- 3+ years commercial background in development using C#
- Strong OOP knowledge.
- Unit testing experience.
- You live by good processes and principles like SOLID and DRY, and you’re acquainted with common design patterns.
- We don’t know how much spare time you have, but if you had any, you’d like to use some of it for tinkering / side projects.
- You recognise that getting the right solution is more important than being right.
- Nothing in your history that would preclude you from passing a security clearance.
Nice to have, but not essential
- Experience in a language other than C# / JS. We’re less concerned about what that language is, and more concerned that you’re able to look at, and reason about problems from different perspectives.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automated provisioning (e.g. Azure DevOps/Blueprints, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack) and its benefits to a modern development function.
- Formal Computer Science/Software Engineering background
We don’t expect these but it would be awesome if you had them
- Cyber Security experience
- Experience of mentoring others and/or giving talks/presentations on tech topics. We value staff development and we care about giving back to the community.
How we work
We’re a friendly and supportive team and we leave our egos at the door. We believe that we all work better in a supportive environment that listens and takes onboard the opinions of others. We prefer to work through how we solve an issue in a calm way than point fingers of blame. When you screw up, we’ll recognise that it happens to all of us, we’ll learn from it and move on (and we might even buy you a drink to cheer you up). We’re an equal opportunities employer. We recognise that women are under-represented in our industry and we support efforts to improve gender representation. We expect any new developer to hold these values and fit into this mould.
Application process
Send your CV with some words to introduce you. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
You’ll be asked to write code as part of the interview process (but don't worry, we don't go in for those silly Fizzbuzz challenges - we're developers ourselves, and know how irritating those can be) .
The first stage of the process is a very short relaxed chat with our Lead Technical Architect. This will be less technical in nature, and more about finding out things about you. The second stage interview will focus more on technical aspects; we'll be more than happy to give you some guidance about that at the first interview.
