Research Analyst

Pearl is a national start-up that certifies high-performing homes: homes with efficient heating and cooling, solar, smart home devices, resilient features and much more. Pearl’s certification drives demand for these improvements by capturing their value for resale and appraisal.
We are looking for a Research Analyst to join our dynamic, supportive team to work remotely from anywhere in the US. (We have been fully remote since our founding.)
As the Research Analyst, you will:
- Support the design, technical requirements, implementation and refinement of Pearl’s Certification System by designing scoring systems beyond energy efficiency
- Conduct research around high-performing home features including resilience, renewables, indoor air quality, and water efficiency
- Conduct detailed analysis and research with limited guidance
- Consult with experts across multiple home performance facets to develop robust, clear, and comprehensive scoring systems
- Write clear, detailed, and thorough requirements
- Communicate technical and complex ideas clearly to homeowners, software developers, internal stakeholders and non-industry experts
- Participate in discussions with partner organizations around high-performing home
- Write and contribute to white papers, technical reports and conference presentations
- Maintain expertise by staying abreast of new and developing industry issues and trends
What we’re looking for in a Research Analyst:
- Authorization to legally work in the US
- You have 3+ years of experience in a relevant field
- Background in engineering, building science, resiliency or residential construction
- Expertise in building science principles and high-performing homes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- You have experience working in a fast paced, iterative environment where multi-tasking and time-management skills are critical
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of stakeholders
- You thrive under pressure and enjoy working in a start-up environment with competing priorities
- You are a self-starter with a bias toward action and a proven track record of results
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to listen and synthesize
- You do not shy away from tactfully offering ideas and opinions
Nice to have:
- Previous startup experience
- Experience with building energy modeling tools

Compensation and Benefits:
- Market salary based on experience and local conditions, in the range of $100 to $125k, plus stock options
- Medical, vision and dental coverage provided for employees and their families, with optional upgrade coverage, where the employee covers only the difference in cost
